Spaces, X’s live audio feature, now allows hosts to turn on video during chat sessions. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, announced the news on Wednesday, with owner/CTO Elon Musk Forward Walkthrough from a user named “Dogedesigner”.
When Spaces users create a new Spaces session for the first time, they will notice a new option to “Enable Video.” Hosts can choose the phone’s front- or rear-facing camera, and a landscape or vertical view of the video feed.
Video Spaces are available on the iOS version of the X app, but we haven’t seen them on Android or the web yet. So far, multiple users have reported noticeable lag when trying out the feature.
Currently, only the host can open the video. The end result is a prominent display of the host’s video feed, then surrounded by icons for co-hosts, speakers, and any audience members. At first glance, this is a Twitch-like environment – any selected viewer can chime in at any time. The host’s video feed also only exists within a Spaces session, so users must join the session to listen.
When Elon Musk announced late last year that Spaces would get video capabilities, his description of it sounded closer to a video conferencing app or a video calling app like FaceTime, where the video source would switch to what’s currently being viewed. The person who speaks.
But for now, a typical space with a video session highlights the host’s video feed surrounded by smaller icons of any other speakers, co-hosts, or listeners in the room.It is not Exactly It’s like Twitch in that anyone you allow can talk to you, but it does turn the moderator into the main event in a similar way.
X Spaces’ new video integration is separate from the platform’s existing video integration Live broadcast function, allowing users to live stream videos directly. Spaces act as live chat rooms where multiple users can listen and speak. In contrast, the audience at a typical live broadcast You can only comment or send your thoughts.
