Xiaomi Mi Band 8 Pro is reviewed

This is the Xiaomi Mi Band 8 Pro, and it’s a little bigger and a little better than the previous generation.

It comes with a magnetic charger and a nice TPU strap – ours was the light gray model. The band is already available in Europe for €70.

This model looks very much like the SmartBand 7 Pro on which it’s based, but offers some quality-of-life improvements. First, the display is larger – up from 1.64 inches to 1.74 inches, and it’s a bit sharper at 336ppi. The panel brightness is 100 nits brighter at 600 nits.

The battery has also increased by nearly 20%.

Mi Band 8 Pro runs Xiaomi’s proprietary operating system. It’s simple to use – swipe to the right to reveal settings toggles, different screen panels to the left, swipe from the bottom to reveal the apps grid, and swipe from the top to reveal notifications.

The band has a great lineup. It’s made from a high-strength fiber polymer, but you might mistake it for metal because it has what’s called a non-conductive vacuum metallization coating that makes it look like metal.

The glass on top of the display is Gorilla Glass 3. Thanks to the 5ATM resistance, you can take the smart band swimming with you. It’s equivalent to 50 meters, but Xiaomi has a series of warnings in case you want to test the water resistance – no hot showers or saunas are allowed, and keep in mind that water resistance will deteriorate over time.
