How to make iPad run faster?
Free up internal storage and memory and breathe new life into old devices
Many new tech releases come in the spring, so it might be tempting to buy the latest iPad or Android tablet, but if you need to save some money and want to spend it on another tech upgrade, you can give your current tablet a Computer refreshed nicely.
Here are some tips to improve the performance of your iPad or tablet:
Remove app from home screen
The easiest way to free up storage space on your iPad or tablet is to delete unused apps.
How to delete an app from the home screen:
- Click and hold application until a small menu pops up.
- choose Delete application Delete apps individually.
- choose Edit home screen If you want to delete multiple apps at the same time. This will cause all applications to start rocking.
- tap “-“icon Then on any apps you don’t need Confirm you want to delete the app, not just delete it From any popup on the home screen.
- After deleting all unwanted apps on a given screen, swipe right to continue deleting apps on the next page of the home screen.
- tap complete When you are done.
Remove large applications
You might be surprised by how much storage space a single application takes up, especially games with HD graphics. I like to review all the apps I download on my iPad and delete the ones I haven’t used recently.
If you’re not sure how often you use apps or how much internal storage your iPad apps take up, I recommend actually looking at the used and unused storage on your iPad or tablet.
Continue checking all your apps until you clear out the ones you don’t use frequently or take up a lot of storage space.
How to see available storage and which apps are using the most storage:
- Click set up icon.
- then click General.
- navigation iPad storage. You will see the remaining available internal storage space and the amount of storage space that has been used.
- Wait until all apps are loaded into the list under Storage. Each app displays the amount of internal storage it uses in descending order from largest to smallest, as well as the last time you used the app.
- Choose any application that looks unusually large.
When you click on the app list, you will see various options such as Documents & Data, Uninstall App, or Delete App. For apps that have not been used for a long time, you can uninstall or delete the app.
- uninstallan application Remove it from your home screen, which saves the information so you’ll still use a certain amount of storage, but not as much as you are currently consuming.
- Delete application Delete the app from your home screen and all data so you can free up all the storage space used by the app. Some apps also allow you to delete documents and data but keep the app on the home screen.
After selecting the application, click back arrow Return to iPad storage list. Continue checking all your apps until you clear out the ones you don’t use frequently or take up a lot of storage space. Remember, if you decide you need an app again, you can always re-download it from the App Store.
Clear your cached data
Another great way to free up excess storage space is to clear cached data. Most cache data comes from information saved the first time you visit a website. Clearing this data will free up some storage space in the short term, but will rebound once you use the app or website again.
However, I still recommend doing this regularly as it’s a great way to increase the privacy of your personal information.
To clear Safari or Chrome cache, follow these steps:
- Click set up icon.
- then click General.
- navigation iPad storage.
- scroll down to Safari and select the application.
- choose Website data.
- At the bottom of the screen, click Delete all stored data.
You can perform the same steps for Chrome.

Delete photos and videos
Almost everyone loves taking photos and videos. But before you know it, endless photos of your cat lounging in the sun or daily videos of your baby growing can eat up a lot of storage space on your tablet or device.
One important thing to remember is that when you delete photos or videos from your Camera Roll, it does not free up space immediately as the files are moved to the Camera Roll Trash for 30 days. You have to manually empty the Trash to actually delete the photos.
To delete deleted photos and videos, follow these steps:
- tap Camera Roll.
- tap album.
- tap Recently deleted.
- tap choose In the upper right corner.
- tap Delete all In the lower left corner.
You can enable cloud storage for photos and videos. This means your photos and videos will be automatically saved to your iCloud account (which uses your Apple ID).
Here’s how to enable cloud storage using iCloud on iPad:
- Open settings.
- tap General.
- choose iPhone storage.
- Next to iCloud Photos, tap Enable.
Most people are surprised by the number of tabs they have open on Safari or Chrome. These tabs can eat up working memory and slow down the performance of your iPad or tablet.
To close unnecessary tabs, follow these steps:
- Click Safari app.
- Press and hold tab icon In the lower right corner. It looks like two overlapping small squares.
- choose Close all tabs in the pop-up menu.

How to clean an iPad or tablet?
All you need is a microfiber cloth
In addition to freeing up storage space, you should also manually clean your iPad and accessories as part of your tablet spring cleaning. Wiping the screen can remove accumulated smudges and oil from your fingers. Additionally, clearing debris from attached keyboards can prevent keys from sticking.
How to clean an iPad or similar tablet:
- Press and hold sleep/wake button and slide the screen slider to Off.
- Unplug all cables and remove attached devices, including cases.
- Use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth. Do not use any cleaners or sprays. These products can damage screens, even if they are designed for electronics. Make sure the charging port does not get wet.
- Wipe the screen dry with a dry microfiber cloth.
You can clean the inside and outside of your tablet case similarly. Use compressed air to remove any debris from the inside edges of the housing. If you have a Magic Keyboard, you can use a microfiber cloth with a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the keys and wipe the front and back. I use compressed air to loosen any dirt or debris underneath the keys.
To clean your Apple Pencil or tablet stylus, use a microfiber cloth and a small amount of water. Hold the far end of the pencil and drag the cloth from the tip to the far end. Do not wipe the Apple Pencil tip itself or the USB connector.
How to clean your TV, monitor or laptop display the right way
There’s nothing more distracting than an annoying smudge on your screen. Here’s how to clean your TV, computer monitor or laptop display the right way.
Physically cleaning the device and freeing up storage space by uninstalling apps and photos are great ways to refresh an old tablet. I also recommend using this time to find a new productivity app or two in the app store that might help you make better use of your time on your device or streamline processes.
